Fried Hog Basket

Sounds interesting, doesn't it!  Well that's what our receipt read when Mom and I checked out at my new favorite local dive, Captain Ernie's!  This place is like a nice, hole-in-the-wall restaurant.  It's low-key with tables and chairs that you'd find in a church fellowship hall, but it has a bar that serves beer and wine, and Jimmy Buffet music playing.

Mom and I ate there yesterday for lunch.  We both had the Fried Fish Basket.  Sounds healthy!  We chose the Hog Fish as our fish of choice, since my brother said it was really good fish.  Ummm...yeah...it was A-MAZ-ING!  It's not a fishy fish - nice, clean, mild, yet flavorful!  We also added fried plantains to our Fried Hog Basket.  Again, amazing!  If you've never had plantains, they are definitely worth a try!   A plantain actually looks like a big banana.  The taste is kind of a mix between a sweet potato and a banana.  So, a fried plantain is like a a fat, sweet potato fry with a slight sweet note at the end!  Yummmy!

The Fried Hog Basket was not greasy, and it didn't really taste fried, but it was!  I brought a little big home for Adam to taste.  He loved the hog fish as well...and Ryne ended up eating the rest...and the rest of the plantains too!

If you are ever in West Knoxville, stop by Captain Ernie's off Campbell Station Rd.  You won't regret it!
