My mother-in-law gave me this article in USA Today and it put my mind at ease! Ryne has been able to unbuckle the top latch of his car-seat harness since he was 14/15 months old. He has been able to completely unbuckle himself from all three latches of the five-point harness for a few months now.
This is the main reason we turned Ryne's car-seat from rear-facing to forward-facing before the new AAP recommended age of 2 years old. Imagine how scary it is to not know that your child is unbuckling themselves while your car is in motion, because they are rear-facing. This may not be a legitimate reason to some, but it did deter it for a little while! Now I can safely look back in the rear-view mirror and pull over if he unbuckles himself.
